Pastor Daniel graduated summa cum laude from Catawba College in Salisbury, North Carolina and holds both Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees from Lancaster Theological Seminary in Pennsylvania. She has served on many United Church of Christ boards and committees and is currently serving on the boards of Lancaster Theological Seminary, the Pension Boards, and the Office of General Ministries. The rest of the Daniel family consists of the Rev. Kenneth Daniel, who is an administrator with Phoebe Ministries in Allentown, Pa. They are the parents of two sons, Mark, a student at Bucknell University, and Christopher, a student at Frederick High School.
Rev. Daffern is also the founding Director and Pastoral Counselor and Psychotherapist for Fredericktowne Counseling Center with its offices at Kemp Hall. Fredericktowne Counseling Center is a ministry that
traces its roots and support to ERUCC. Rev. Daffern holds membership in the American Association of Pastoral Counselors, the National Association of Social Workers, the Frederick Area Ministerial Association, and Frederick County Mental Health Association. She volunteers with Habitat for Humanity. Rev. Daffern is married to Michael Bunitsky. Jan’s son, Jud, is a student at Reed College in Portland, Oregon. Mike is an administrator with Frederick County Public Schools and widowed Dad to three sons: Michael II a computer programmer who is married to Ingrid, and lives in downtown Frederick, Matthew, who is completing a degree at the Pittsburgh Institute of Art, and Nicholas who attends Guilford College in North Carolina.
